vinced himself that it was time to try again. "It's now or never," he grumbled. "Let's risk it."
"Risk what?"
"We've got a little chore to take care of."
"Charlie," she whined, "it's getting late. When are we heading back for the city?"
"Not till we're done here," he growled.
They took the same route they had taken previously, heading north on the two-lane highway out of the village, past the chain of fast food restaurants, over the railroad tracks, past the old brewery and finally dropping down on Shore View Road past the condo complex where his brother lived. It was the only way Charlie knew how to get to the cemetery on the outskirts of Cold Water Springs. By the time they passed the old abandoned airport, it was spitting snow.
At the entrance to the cemetery, he stopped. Peggy knew better than to complain at this point.
"We'll just have to chance it," he announced.
Peggy had had enough. "For Christ's sake, Charlie, chance what?"
"We're going up there."
"What the hell for? You were just there yesterday."
"I've got to know."
"Got to know what?"
